For any of you other Linux enthusiastes, Lightwave 7.5 works
extremely well on SUSE 8.2 and Mandrake 9.1 with the latest
Wine release.

I have an AMD 1400 with an nVidia geforce4 GFX card.
It flies.

Newtek should really take a look at complete LightWAVE/Linux
compatibility through Wine. Total market expansion possibilities.

with the USB dongle, yeah, it works!

the only problem...i guess i spoke too soon when i said "perfect",
is that layout doesn't display all of the windows correctly...(like the render options window) modeler however, works excellently!!!

have you tried it on your Linux distro?

Not yet because I'd seen other posts where the usb dongle would not work. Are you sure it is fully working and not just in demo mode? I'd love to use LW on Linux but it's more than likely I'll choose an alternative product which comes in around the same price as the LW8 upgrade :(

I have had the same issues with 'Render Options', 'Object/Light/... Properties' windows not displaying (only every 100th time or so).
This issue was discussed on the Wine mailing list about three month ago if I remember correctly. I also mailed the Wine people offering my help, however I have been too busy to get started with Wine debugging...

I would appreciate any help, because I am running LW under VMware right now, which is really slow.

Well, at least Modeler is working fine for me.
The window issues seem to be affecting Layout only.

No, but I am considering to buy a copy of Crossover Office which officially supports Photoshop 7 in the newest version.

are you serious!!!!????
do you think Crossover would fix the glitches
in Layout too?

I don't know if CrossoverOffice would fix the issues with Layout.
Afaik they are based on the standard Wine code and only add their own code if it is needed to make applications work which are officially supported. So I would say the chances are not too high.
Here is the list of supported applications:

I played around with Wine some more and now have Layout working as well.

All you have to do is add the following lines to your Wine config in the Apps section (with your preferred resolution of course :D ):
[AppDefaults\\Lightwav.exe\\x11drv]
"Desktop" = "1700x1000"

Is that lightwave 7.5c update? I thought that was only the render node for screamer net? Now working in lightwave in linux would be very interesting.

I have never managed to get the sentinel dongles installed. It aborts saying it cannot read Data.cab even though it exists (no matter whether I install from the 7.0b CD here or the latest drivers direct from rainbow.com). I'm not sure how the USB dongle can therefore be made to work. Details would be appreciated.
