my drive performance is not what i'm expecting...

dual 76 Gb SCSI U320 15000 rpm drives (cheetah - seagate)
adaptec scsi controller
drives are striped with 16k striping
pentium IV 2.6 Gb processor
1 Gb RAM

i've reformatted my drives, done a clean reinstall of XP Pro
updated the drivers with the latest SCSI drivers from adaptec site

disktest.exe and autoconfig show R/W speeds at around 40-60 Mb/s even with winrtme killed

my ide drives clock at around 80/60 R/W

is this the normal/expected performance? somehow i would have expected something at least in the 80s or 100s

i have drive indexing disabled

any ideas? thanks!

Have you unstriped and tested the SCSI drives individually? It sounds like you may have one bad drive.

dan - one question...

this drive is a "basic" drive - should i first convert this to a dynamic drive and would that make a difference in my R/W performance?

As far as separating the disks to test them individually, they should be basic and formatted separately. When they are together as a striped set they should be dynamic.

TADA!!

dan - that seemed to work. i converted the drive to dynamic (striped) and the throughput immediately jumped up to 106 (peak) and in the 80s (ave).

i'm in business

thanks!
