How can I make this type of an explosion? I need those fingers shooting out.

i'd suggest reading the part of the manual about Parent Emitter nozzles of particle emitters ;)

basically you have one emitter for the main motion, then parent another emitter to that and it will cause the first emitter's particles to emit particles themselves. great for those tendrils.

:agree:
Study up on particles in the manual, also check out the particle scenes that come with the Content Directory, there's lots of examples, very helpful.

good start! will it move?

a couple of unsolicited crits ;) :

1. thickness and smoothness parameters are your friend. lower thickness + higher smoothness = better look (in general) and longer rendertimes.

2. the fire looks like it might be shadowing itself, not sure though.

3. the smoke is 2d looking everything is either illuminated or black. there should be more gradiation. here's a thread where i gave some smoke advice (and share some simple hv settings):

4. using multiple lights, or at least a different color ambient light, will give you a more realistic look

5. your shape looks a little blobby (common problem with HVs). maybe try a few more particles and more size variation in the HV settings.

keep us posted!

in lightwave go to the scenes folder/-features/sprites/explosion.lws
if you fiddel with it and add it to your existing scene you can add that 'spray' of particles..
good luck
