I would love to be able to attach a gradient of some sort to the heading, pitch and bank limits on bones, so that you could increase the bone stiffness as it approached it's limit. For this to work really well, you would also have to make stiffness not just a relative effect based on other bones in the chain, but actually lessen the effect of the IK solution based on the input of the gradient at the bone's current rotation.

With this feature, you could rig IK structures to react in a much more realistic manner, and would prevent a lot of the "popping" or complete freak-outs that can happen when IK chains are moved the wrong way.
