Is there a way to use weight maps on an object to receive lighting to the map itself,and ignoring the rest of the object? scott

2 ways...

you could have a gradient with weight map input on the diffuse, so that all lights react specifically to the weight mapped areas.

or

you could have a gradient with light incidence input and another gradient with weight map input as the alpha, to make the weight map respond to a specific light.

that's off the top of my head, but it should work. is that what you're asking?

You could also use the surfmix shader and blend between surfaces with weight maps. :)
