View Full Version : Exporting LW objects

Being a newbie at Lightwave I can't seem to solve this one.

When I export an object out of Lightwave for work in another application, obj or 3ds, only a small part of the object appears in the new application (eg. a car wheel only) and not the whole object.

Similarly, when Vue 5 Infinite imports an LWO all that appears is the object credit text at the base of the object.

Any ideas anyone? Grateful of any help.

Regards,
Steve.

I beleive 3ds and obj files require all objects be in the first layer. As for vue odds are you have an object that is subpatched. Vue does not suport subpatched objects. I really have not found any other type of objects that won't import into Vue.

Thanks Silkrooster.
I will check this layer thing and see if that was the problem.
As for Vue, it was a lwo file that Vue claims to be able to load.

New at both programs - having fun learning.

Thanks again,

Steve.

Yes it will load lwo files with the exception of subpatched objects.

Due to a limitation in the LightWave exporter, only the first layer is written to 3DS and OBJ files. Until the LightWave code is rewritten to eliminate this limitation:

Either
Merge all layers into one and then use the LightWave exporter

Or
Use a third party plugin for LightWave that writes 3DS and OBJ files

Or
Use a third party stand-alone conversion program
