Hello everyone,

As I've just started learning about Lightwave, I've only done some basic modelling and animation as part of my university course and to be honest, I'm finding it quite fun (even though I'm not fantastic at it).

I'm wandering if this here forum would be able to provide myself with some help from other users or professionals on some operations...or could I be directed to another community forum which would provide this for novice users such as myself.

Aw wow, nice array of links for me to look at :)

I'm just a bit reluctant to constantly post silly little tid bits I need answering so I'll just keep it to a minimum. Some things I'm not entirely sure of from my course so I'm hoping to get some feedback on problems I experience.

Thanks again.

I saw that ...

Scott Cameronís Collection of Lightwave tutorials on the web http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/Main_Menu.htm

That site had tutorials on shockwave when I looked yesterday but it seems to be down for me at the moment :/

For my course, I'm trying to create a model of a mobile phone... so far, just made a basic simple phone shape from a box, indented the box a little inwards using the bevel and creating a little keypad graphic which I'll put in the indented area.

Is there any other tutorials into making interactive shockwave? Can use the graph editor to rotate the phone however, that's just through the timeline, wanting the user to be able to rotate it freely themselves :(

From my experience of using flash and Lightwave, in a program called swift 3d, I often rendered out frames for a table turn and then had the flashscript call certain a certain frame based on the adjustment slider.

What I mean to say is that all the angles the phone could be shown in has to be prerendered and then you will use a callfunction parameter, a slider or something in the flash/shockwave interface, that will call a certain frame based on your interface input.

Of course you could just be simply asking how to set a keyframe so that rotating the phone will happen in the first place.

The only other thing I could think of is a shockwave document that utilizes openGL over the web in which I am guessing the phone model will have to be made specifically for that software.

Hmm, all sounds a bit tricky to comprehend this early. Will learn a bit more, thanks for the quick replies :)

It doesn't hurt to buy tutorial books and DVDs also. I had to learn LW by myself also a long time ago. All I had to go by were books and trial and errors, since internet connection back then depended on dial up modems. I think its easier to have a hard copy on your hand and following along on your computer...or better yet print them tutorials.

The books I have now are:
Inside Lightwave 8
Lightwave 3D 8 Texturing
Essential Lightwave 3D 8

Silkrooster mentioned KurvStudios, you should check that out soon, they have free Video tutorials to members...membership is free.

Hello Steve, My name is Barry Oborne I have been using LW for several years have taken courses but for the most part I am self taught. I'm the Lone LightWaver of South India. I'm an American living herein Kerala south India and no one here uses LW everyone uses 3D Max or Maya. I'm also trained in Maya but I prefer LightWave. I'm new to this forum as well and I can figure out how to make a new post , I need to find a mentor and I'm desperate for LightWave friends. Can you tell me how you did it also I'm a writer working for a televison station here Called Amrita TV. I edit English all day long hence I'm pretty good at writing out explainations so feel free to ask questions I'm far from a master but I have made almost every mistake that you can make in LightWave and I might be able to get you off to a good start. My personelemail address is [email protected] or [email protected] Good luck I hope to here from you.

I've done this before using Quicktime VR based upon this tute http://www.creativemac.com/HTM/58Seconds/2000/06_00/lightwavequicktimevr/lightwavequicktimevr-page1.htm

Not shockwave but may be what you're looking for???
