How to bake height map (or displacement map)

In Layout

File>Save>Save trans obj

If the mesh is subpatched and subpatch level is above 0 it will save the subdivided+tripled mesh. With subp level at 0 it will save unsubdivided.

Depending on what type of displacements you're doing you could acctually do the whole operation in Modeler, using the Texture Point Map function.

What about for animated displacements like a flag blowing in the wind?
I don't want to bake each frame as a separate object and then use morph targets. That seems silly. Is there another way?

I tried export FBX, but it did not apply the displacements. I tried bake motion, but again.. moving displacements are not motion.

You want to scan mdd for that, me thinks. That will cover the motion of the points.
