I recently gave NewTeks web address to a teacher who wanted to incorporate some 3d into his lesson material. He hadn't heard of Lightwave so I went home and looked at the NewTek site from his perspective.

What would he see?

OUCH!

No great video, no great graphics from tv and movies.

I don't mean to make the frontpage heavy and it takes ages to download but please at least put some 3d images on it.
Don't you think so?

well i cant tell by what you said in your post, but i would look at http://www.newtek.com/lightwave/ because this site is strictly for lightwave and the 3d work containing a couple nice galleries and a list of all projects lightwave has been a part of..

Yeah have to agree... the newtek front page is more of a hub to access all of their products. The Lightwave front page is very nice indeed, the little animation bits at the top could be updated more often, but i love them so i'm not bothered about that at all!

I appreciate that the NewTek frontpage is a hub for a variety of products. It is that these products are highly visual and it is difficult for anybody to realise the quality of products NewTek makes.

Yeah, very true. Maybe with LW 9 round the corner they'll go for something more gobsmacking and more eyecandy!? Although, i can't see it myself. The front page has always has a similar feel to it, as long as i can remember anyway.

I would just like to say that less is more.

Keep in mind that Newtek is more than a 3D company. If you want to direct people to lightwave, you can always point them to www.lightwave3d.com (http://www.lightwave3d.com) This will go directly to the Lightwave section of Newtek's site.

By the way there is also www.videotoaster.com (http://www.videotoaster.com)

The site is functional which suits me. It's fairly clean design, but certainly not a an inspirational design, it could be better. The Lightwave section is a little bit too heavily themed for my tastes and clashes with the blue and white used elsewhere. In comparission I like the look of the Maya site but usability-wise I think it lacks, too fiddly. The trick is to get the right balance between design and functionality. You want a site to look good, set the right tone, without compromising functionality.

I think It has good parts like the clips and the cleanness. The weakest parts as I see it is the the top banner and the other banners, I think just killing those backgrounds and maybe use a font for the top that looks more like the rest of the LW graphics. I think that would do a lot.

I think I would grade it at half or less from what Luxology has, I'd really would like it to be the other way around.
