I am currently running LW on 2 computers with the following video cards. ATI 9000 PRO DDR x86/SSE2, 128MB ram, OGL 1.3.1011 (WinXP Release) and a nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4800/AGP/SSE2, 128 MB ram, OGL 1.5.4.

My question is, will these be adequate for LW 8.5, 9.0 and beyond, or should I upgrade to more recent cards.

If I upgrade, which cards will give me the best bang for my buck. I can probably go up to $200 for each card but need some experienced input on which would be the best.

Thanks,
jbcaro

I'm using an XFX GeForce 6600 with 256Mb in a dual monitor configuration. It's a PCI-e type that I bought at Tigerdirect for less than $200. Upgraded to the latest nvidia drivers with Open GL 2.0. So far it's worked flawlessly in a dual boot computer using both XP64 and Win2000. I'm using LW8.5(32) in both partitions and LW8.5(64) in XP64. Don't know about the 2 cards you mention but you should be able to find something within your budget. Hope this helps.

The nvidia 6800 series is the fastest card you could get for AGP at the moment as far as I know.
I had a 4600TI 128MB agp card and stepped up to a 6800GT OC 256MB agp card and have been very pleased.
I tried the 6200s and 6600s as well. All seemed to work well with Lightwave's new OpenGL2 requirements. If you buy a 6200 series card,.. make sure it has built in ram and not shared ram. Avoid the low ram versions ( less than 128 MB ). The BFG brand cards are nice and tend to be a bit faster as well.

Thanks dgon64 and nemac4. I will look at the nVidia 6200 through 6600 series cards.
