Is there any known method to create text objects in Lightwave that are based on quad polys?

I want to use True Type fonts if possible.

2 ways come to mind. 1st kil the poly and make 4 point polys from the points. 2nd select the poly, use extender plus or smooth shift to create new geometry and use the size tool to move the geometry inwards on the same plane. Repeat until small enough, then either triple or weld points depending on the object.
