View Full Version : How Can I Import a C4D Object into LW 8.5

The title tells it all. I need to convert a C4D object with textures to a Lightwave Object........By Yesterday!!

......I have Polytrans, but, it doesn't convert [email protected]@#$#%$%&^&**()..:-( Lightwave should be able to import more file formats!!!!! :cursin:

Is there anyone out there that can help? :help:

Short Answer you can't!

If Polytrans can't do it, Deep Exploration CAN but it's expensive...
And the person converting .c4d files will need c4d installed....
(and even then it failes often)

Why not just export from C4D to a .3ds, .obj or .lwo?
And if it's the included Maxon Nissan Skyline object, don't waste your time.. ;)

By the time you export the 10Mb .c4d it becomes a 135Mb .3ds file
and a 240Mb .obj file....... And LW Modeler really loves reading a 240Mb .obj
file with only 1Gb of ram doesn't it.............. No! :)

I can only guess that the c4d object format is A) closed, B)compressed, C)
a pain in the arse to convert....

I also guess that C4D handles large amounts of polys, really well!
Likely a fair bit better than LW, but that is of course with very limited C4D experience....

I can get it in a 3ds format, but, I loose all the textures & Surface names. I was hoping to keep that data. My client wants this Cartoon Dog Model in their spot to look exactly like the one were getting from TurboSquid!...& he wants it done YESTERDAY!!!

If you can find someone with C4D, to take the .c4d and convert it to a .obj.
.Obj should keep the UV's though....... So if you can get a .OBJ version...
But otherwise Yeah, I would start reworking those texture/surfaces qucikly then.. :)

Like the day before yesterday, silly! :)
