So is paying an extra $1600+ worth getting the FX 4500? Or would the GForce 6600 work well enough.

I have to say its a pretty tempting machine and I hope we'll be seeing some sort of bench marks on it soon.

id say, in LW 9 its would be good, since there axing the old legacy drivers that are the cause of such slow openGL in LW. Curently 8.5 etc you'd not see a huge difference.

the apple product PDf says that there will be also a geforce 7800 GT card, but the price is not yet out. seems that it's performance will be close to the quadro card, but it will not feature the 3d display option.

that's actually great - i don't really want the stereoscopic display option. And the 7800GT is going for around $500 for pcs, so we won't be seeing a huge price increase. It looks as if this might be a better card for what I want.

Thanks,

truth is in the open GL drivers from Apple, too.. You may want to gauge that as well.

It seems that the 7800GT, after being cancelled, is now a *coming soon* option. I'm just wondering how soon soon will be. That's quite a nice card and it won't be $1650 extra :D

I have the GeForceUltra DDL card that came as the optional card on my g5. I forget how much it added to the cost of my dual 2.5 g5, but it was pretty heavy. Anyhow, with the advent of these new cards, has my card been obsoleted alrerady?

Yes. It's totally obsolete - practically worthless, really.

Tell you what, I'll take it off your hands. It's only taking up valuable space in your G5...

Darth Mole, why would you want old junk like that sent to you? I am a collector, and it just so happens that I am missing that paticular model.

there is many chance that the 6800 GT/Ultra DDL will remain the highest end card for those powermac with agp interface, the new 7800 and quadro fx 4500 are pci-express only
