Hi, I'm considering buying the utility vehicles package from doschdesign.com, if I go for the "order download versions" there's options of:

3DS
Price: 119,00 USD
C4D Version ab V7
Price: 119,00 USD
C4D Version V8.5 and above
Price: 119,00 USD
FBX
Price: 119,00 USD
Lightwave 6.5 and above
Price: 119,00 USD
3ds max (version 4 and above)
Price: 119,00 USD
Maya (version 4 and above)
Price: 119,00 USD
OBJ
Price: 119,00 USD
VRML
Price: 119,00 USD
Softimage XSI
Price: 119,00 USD
ArchiCAD 9.0 and above (GDL / GSM files)
Price: 119,00 USD

Just wondering if anyone has any insight into whether I should go OBJ or LWO? Given that the OBJ is 97,94 MB and the LWO is 79,31 MB.

Cheers
Pete

Only reason I can think of in getting OBJ is it is compatable with more programs.

get the lw version obj and 3ds are just the 2 generic formats to cover the bases of those who have older veresions of the main packeages or odd ball packages like z brush for example....not that z brush is THAT oddball other than it's not a major player yet.....

OBJ is an inefficient plain text format - you aren't getting any extra geometry for your money!

Hello Peter,

I thought that most of Dosch Discs came with several versions on them.
I know some of my other Discs had C4D and Obj and LWO on them.

Send them an email just to check.

If all else fails sure if you have Lightwave, well then get the LWO versions.
Then if you still want the OBJ, export it from Lightwave.

Hope this helps.

If you need it in more than one program I'd go for FBX. Otherwise LWO is the most complete and extended 3d file format that exists... OBJ would never be a considderation... Old and deprecated. The filesize is bigge rbecause OBJ files are less well compressed.
