hello everyone I was just curious if anyone out there has a good technique for creating hair or fur with out the use of the sasquatch plugin?

there is a tutorial on the site that talks about making hair with polygons.

Sorry, can't remember the exact title.

Here are the basics.

create a polygon.

Create a UV map for that polygon.

Go into photoshop and create something that looks like several strands of hair.

In Lightwave apply your photoshop file to the transparency channel. Make sure your image (for the transparency) has a lot of contrast that distinguishes the hair from the area you want transparent.

Check double sided and smooth.

Do a test render and see what you get. It takes a little tweaking but that should get you started. When you get something you like, save that texture and then you can start cloning the polygon strand onto your object. It's best not to do the entire thing until you at least get into the ball park.

p.s. the rendering is long on this technique.

Another option is to try using Pawel Olas's Random Cloner tool.

Does the method in this link provide an equal or adequate substitute for getting the full version of Sasquatch? If so, why? If not, why not?
