Did a fresh install of 8.0 then upgraded to 8.5, now when I open the
help contents [F1] the nice splash window opens, but thats it.
Has anyone else run into this. I am fairly new to LW and do need
to use the help function all to often.

now that you mention it...yeah, i seem to have the same problem...didn't notice it before....don't know what to say, do you have the manual at all, either physical or pdf version? that may help you out for the time being...

Do you have java script enabled on your browser?

Thanks Dodgy. Currently looking for the Java switch in IE 6, but can not
seem to find one. Down loading Fire Fox, as another option.

I got the same problem after I downloaded the new version of the Flashplayer today, the content bar does not show up on the left side when I press F1. :(

Here's a quick test for you guys, scroll to the top of this page, select products and then lightwave 3d. If you can see the menu and the animations, then flash and java are working if one or both are missing, then you either need to download and install flash or you need to turn on java.
If you have Norton Internet security, that program can also disable java.
For IE 6 goto TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS...>SECURITY>INTERNET>SECURITY LEVEL FOR THIS ZONE>DEFAULT LEVEL
For Norton Internet Security PERSONAL FIREWALL>CONFIGURE>FIREWALL>DEFAULT LEVEL
