Modeller view shading display

Im a bit of a newbie so dont laugh, but I havent noticed any way to have displayed what sort of shading your view port is on.
Like wireframe etc... Shouldnt it say it in the window or have a tick in the pull down menu? Just a thought...

Most of the time you're able to see the difference....

makes a big difference when u are following a tutorial and if your mac/pc is a bit slow like 3 years old in refresh..
Keep in mind alot of newbies need to learn the lingo first then shortcut later...
