View Full Version : shadows "offsetting"

I'm having an issue with shadow map shadows cast by spot lights are "offset" so that the objects casting them look like they're floating.

the shadow-casting objects are on the surface catching the shadow..when I use area lights and raytraced shadows, the shadows are placed properly, and nothing looks like it's floating.

anyone ever encounter this and know what causes it?

Try increasing the shadow map size. The default of 512 is only good for spotlights fairly close to the object. I've used up to 8192 as a shadowmap size on larger scenes where the spotlight is far from the objects.

Going to 16384 is bad on my system, since it hangs LW trying to calculate the shadowmap for even simple scenes. This may be just my configuration, though.

ah...ok..so, the 2048 I was using just wasn't quite big enough? I'll try a larger value there...
