If anyone else is a military model nut like me, I have made my own Federal Standard color charts. I have Photoshop contact sheets, and I made a Word doc of all of them sorted by FS number. The doc also has the common name as well as RGB numbers.
If you would like copies let me know and I'll send them along.

We occasionally do military stuff. I'd be interested in those charts.

Thanks,

Jon

I'm interested too. Can you post them to the forum as a zipped attachment or link?

Thanks!

I'll put everything together as a .zip and post it here. Just in case, I am also putting the .jpg samples of the colors I have in with it.

I should have it together and posted sometime in the next day or 2.

Ok, here is the zip file.

It contains the word doc FStoRGB, 7 .tif contact sheets of the color samples, and a directory containing all the .jpg sample files.

These are mainly aircraft colors, but if needed, I can do another one for naval colors.

Have fun.

For those interested in other nations colours, here are a few links to other sources.

Here is a good list of RLM colours with swatches:-

And more Aircraft colours, including RAF, Japanaese & Finnish:-

This site has various military enamel & acrylic model paints listed. Each with its FS , RLM, or RAF No etc, and a colour swatch.

All these colours, even ones from official charts should be used with a pinch of salt. Paint stocks vary a great deal - especially from the days of WWII, and often faded pretty rapidly in sunlight/wind/rain. I can vouch for that personally. Look at any aircraft that has had a repair or a new panel fitted. The new paint stands out like a sore thumb.

Well said mkiii.

What I posted is meant as an initial starting point only. I got the samples straight from a copy of the Federal Standard.

In light of that, the colors are as they would appear factory fresh, under ideal lighting conditions, if such a thing even exists.

I also know what you mean about the differences from experience. The majority of the time, if you take the FS Color wheel and hold it next to a newly painted aircraft, the colors are similar, but not the same.

But still, I did them for my own reference and as a good starting point for texturing.

I hope my post didn't come across as a criticism of your list.

A good starting reference point is vital.

mkiii...

I didn't take your post that way at all. After lurking in the forums for 2+ years, and reading more than a few of your posts, I welcome your thoughts and look forward to reading more of them.
