View Full Version : Problem: Item Properties not showing up intermittently

I thought it was an issue at just my last workplace but it is
happening here as well and it's a different video card.

Intermittently, my ITEM PROPERTIES window is not coming up. Or
rather, the window is coming up but all it has is the brushed
metal texture of the interface, but nothing IN it.

In addition, you can't CLOSE the window... You click the X button
and it just stays there...

2 things in common with both systems:
Both were in Windows 2000
Both were dual monitor systems - one had just a clone view,
output to a TV and this one is actually a wide desktop.
Both were using USB dongle (same version of software,
Lightwave 7.5, I'm just at another company now.)

This happens regularly, and I have to click around on the
interface randomly and keep hitting P or Item Properties to get it
to work. Eventually. Sometimes it takes longer than others.

This is highly annoying. I am guessing people's first advice will
be "Install the newest video drivers for your card." Is there
ANYTHING ELSE it could be? I would MUCH prefer to solve this
problem another way.

Here is a screenshot of the problem happening:

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Yes this is
happening on a legal registered copy of lightwave on a fresh
install and it happens regularly, even before I've loaded any
scenes, etc. Please help!

After posting I realized I was running 7.5 and not 7.5b, on both
this machine and my previous. I installed it and it seems to have
corrected the problem! I'll respond again if it starts happening
again but it looks like I was just dumb for not having the update
installed!!! D'oh!

I have regular 7.5 and mine doesn't do that.
I have 7.5 installed on my Win2k machine and it didn't do that and now I use it on my WinXP machine and it doesn't do it there either.

What kind of video card are you using?
I have dual desktop on my WinXP machine but not on my Win2k machine. I've heard dual displays can be problematic on Win2k.

Glad to hear 7.5b solved the problem but I think your problem probably has to do with video drivers and dual desktop on Win2k.

Just a pointless follow-up ---

Yeah it does sound like it was connected to a Win2k expanded desktop issue, though on machine #1 it wasn't a wide desktop but rather a cloned view of the first onto a TV.

I've now used LW for 8+ hours without seeing the problem where I would see it before extremely frequently, usually 5-10 times per hour.

So obviously something was changed in 7.5b that saved me from that hell! =)
