How about a property page that displays the specs of the objects. I don't necessarily mean the page in layout, but in the header of the lwo and lws files. Information that shows ownership of the files. Similar to a word file, but beable to encrypt the information. This would allow an object to be accessed by the public but can not be altered without a password. Maybe with an experation date as well, making the file unreadable after that date.

How about just an area within the LWO or LWS that simplifies individual object summeries for object parameters, I'm sure that would enable 3rd party applications a much easier layer of integration and import functionality and improve the development process of things such as 3D game engines.

This data could be quickly searched for and imported/read into an application as regular human readable text data.

An area which describes an object like this using single lines when possible to pass reference:
ObjectMesh1Colors=Ambient:Color,Diffuse:Color,Spec ularity:Color

Now that would make it very easy to import if not be able to re-duplicate that object in another custom developed application and could create a new standard that could be easily adapted without knowing 100% every aspect of the Lightwave file format.

The thing I find useful during application developing is making everything as human readable and simple as possible, the easier it is to understand functionality, the easier it is to re-duplicate and employ those same concepts.

You can use simple available standards or custom encryption algorithms to encrypt an entire file or parts of a file via string encryption, the problem with that is it takes time to encrypt and decrypt a whole file and would slow down the object's loading process, plus in order for 3rd party programs to be able to re-use these encrypted files they would have to have a copy of the decryption scheme, thus, defeating the encryption method possibly.
