does anyone know of any good compositing tutorials? Also how would u render just the shadow of an object?

There's a couple ways to render the shadows, one is to add an image filter - Render Buffer View or Render Buffer Export (the first to view in the image editor, the second to save a file) and check 'shadows' in their respective properties - the other way is to change the surface attribute of the objects recieving shadows, in the advanced tab change the Alpha Channel drop-down list to 'Shadow Density'.

Note that these 2 processes do not work with radiosity-type shadows, because those are not shadow 'data' that the renderer creates, they're simply areas which are not lit, so there's no data to put into a buffer. If you need radiosity shadows rendered separately, you'll need to make your own black & white image, using a white scene and objects.
