I am a newbie to LW. I currently use Viz for all my renderings. I just won a design competition and the prize I get is LW. My question is this, does anybody know how to bring a Revit model into LW? In Viz there is a file link manager and I just export from Revit a DWG and bring it in. It maintains material defs so all I have to do is map it and light it. Is there a way to the same thing in LW? Any help would be appreciated. I am looking forward to being apart of this community and learning LW.

Thanks
Taylor

Hi Taylor

I'd heard of this format before but never used it - you'll need third-party software to export a DWG to something LW can use, called PolyTrans - http://www.okino.com/default.htm

If you can export 3ds, obj or dxf from Revit, those will come into LW too.

Thanks for the help! I can export a DXF, but not 3ds. I could just bring into Viz and export it out as a 3ds file. My main concern is how LW reads the file. I want the objects to come in so it is easy to map the model.

I don't think you get any coordinates or materials with dxf so 3ds is your best bet - there's a fair amount of Archi people here, in fact there's forum for it, they probably have a better idea than me - you can also check out Flay.com (http://flay.com) for a huge searchable database of Lightwave plugins.
:goodluck:
