View Full Version : Need LW Render (banner size 15' x 4')

We have already designed a very simple banner in Lightwave using Eki's Plugpack (skygen), and a model of our logo-- there is some glow added.

The problem is is we've run into the dreaded memory problems of Lightwave (Image creation failed, segment errors, ad nauseum). This is due to the size of the render.

What we're looking to do is to pay someone to get this rendered for us using whatever techniques are available (splitrender, etc.).

We'll supply you with the LWS and LWO-- all we need is the completed render in PSD, PNG, or TIF.

How much memory do you think I would need to make this render? How much Ram do you have? What kind of resolution are we looking at here anyway?

I did some figuring. 15 feet is 3.75 times the size of 4 feet. So I took that ratio and applied it to a 40 inch banner giving us 40" x 10.667" at 300 DPI. 40" x 10" at 300 DPI is a 12,000 x 3,200 pixel render in lightwave. I just did a couple of those with 1GB of Ram in 5 minutes. 12,000 x 3,200 pixels should be plenty large enough to do a 15 foot "rip" if you are using that kind of printing technology.

Hope this helps:)

We ended up using ResPower (render farm) to get the job done. Why they were able to render it is beyond my knowledge.

The machine I originally tried this on was my development machine.

Pentium D (3.2Ghz)
2GB RAM
WinXP Sp2
Image was 16000 x 5715 (ended up 14' x 5')

Then I tried it on a lab server (DELL Poweredge 2850, Dual Xeon 3 Ghz, 4GB RAM). Both had the issue of "Image Creation Failed" even when I was able to get past the issue of allocating buffers (by shrinking the segments down to 2MB each).

All in all, it was a horrible white-knuckled experience. :thumbsdow

If any of y'all are curious, I'd be happy to put up the banner LWS & LWO for download for research purposes.

Let me know if you still need help with this. I have worked with large items before and would be happy to give is a shot.

Hello,

I am certainly able to do that with the equiptment I own. email me at [email protected] if the work is still available. I have a high speed connection to receive your materials, and will do the work right away (then mail you any medium you prefer, such as DVDR). Thank you for your time,

Bryan
