View Full Version : a problem with a rig

hi guys - sorry to bother you all here but I'm fairly new to rigging and am having a bit of trouble and I can't find out why this is happening ...
basically I have a character rigged, whose arms are straight out in an IK chain running from the hand to the collarbone, when I bend the arms in towards the body the fingers of the hand start to bend in too forming a fist - I just don't know why this is happening. Each finger is rigged in its own IK chain with the hand bone unaffected by descendants.

I can't bend the fingers out once they have moved into this position either.

Sorry if this is a bit of a noob question, but does anyone know what may be causing this? Thanks all.

Which bones have goal objects? If the hands have one, and the goal doesn't move with the arm, then the hand will react.

btw you normally don't need IK for arms and hands, unless he's grabbing onto something and hanging from it or that type of stuff

Lose the IK on the fingers. It will only drive you to insanity.
Posing fingers with keyframes is a much more straightforward way
of animating hands.
