Hi everybody :cool: I'm tryinq to evoke softness of a droplet. I am a beginner, specially with shaders. For modelling i use a lathe and apply a soft procedural displace. For shading i use a fast fresnel and a textured environnment with a sky photography.

how do you get the water to go like that as a splash?

I made a lathe, then both drops are in two different layers. Once the ended lathe, i modified my mesh. I also have to add a displacment mappingwith a procedural shader. I'ts just modelling no effects ;)

I really like the geometry of your droplet and expanding waves. It looks great. I'm not sure the displacement is appropriate though. The displacement looks like an ocean, but from quite a distance away, while the droplet looks like an extremely close up view. From that close, the water would be smoother overall, I think.

I really like this.

I agree with etobiason that the surface is a smidge too bumpy for a nice closeup like that, but it does give it detail which is good. I like the lighting in this scene and the detail in the upward column, it makes it feel very artistic and painterly (is that a word?). Definitely one of the coolest stills I've seen in a long time.

Yes it's maybe too much displacement mapping :agree:
