Now I can finally add my little lizard critter to my desert scenes!
Also, he's all rigged up with IKB and is easy to animate and manipulate too :)

First, the screen shot of the rigging and then a few test renders.

BTW, I'm thinking of donating this little guy, if anyone is interested?
Haven't made up my mind for sure yet, but I'm leaning that way :)

Looks great but an animation would be nice ;)

Thanx, and that'll be next.
Took me a VERY, VERY long time just to get it rigged,
as I kept running into problems.

But, don't worry, soon enough :)

I already have the scene for him to live in,
so I won't have to worry about that end of things.
Here's the old scene, before he had been rigged.

He'll come from the back and work his way foreward and maybe eat bugs along the way :)
And the DOF will follow him correctly too.

Looking forward to seeing it.

I notice you're a VUE5 Infinite user (from the CG talk forums) - I don't suppose you could make a step-by-step tutorial on how to use this ****** program - unlike you, I didn't get a manual with my bundled version.

I have to say the lack of documentation has stopped me even looking at it apart from when I first installed it. My memories of earlier versions of Vue are not good to say the least 8~

I suppose what's not helping is that I'm halfway through a project and I need to create something with Vue - and not having a manual to guide me is ******* me off.

What version did you buy?
And how come they didn't give you a manual?
Actually, I got a big thick manual, and would rather have
a PDF for easy refferencing and searching and all that.
But, I'll take what I can get, and I know a lot of people would
rather have a book to read while sitting on the couch or whatever.

Anyway, right now I don't know enough about the program to do a
step by step yet, but later down the road I "will" be putting out
some of my own tutorials on Vue.

Nice model! The position is too flat and the legs are too spread, though. The legs should support the body off the (hot) ground, and the foot positions should be almost under the body. It looks more like its swimming than walking / running.

Do a quick GOOGLE image search of "horny toad" and I think you'll see what I mean.

My version of Vue5 came bundled with LW - and no friggin documentation with it at all!!!!

What I was hoping (expecting) for was some step-by-step tutorials on how to create some of that awesome stuff that is on the demo reel.

My frustration is borne out of wanting & needing to get up-to-speed with this program quickly rather than having a spare few days to sit and fiddle so to speak. I mean, why go to all those lengths to produce such an awesome program and not back it up with equally good documentation?

At least there's no shortage of stuff for LW8 out there :D

Well, that sure would suck!
And yeah, I was pretty amazed that they didn't give a bunch
of tutorials to get you up and running with the thing.
Sure, they have this ONE tutorial, but that one you can get off
their site, before you ever even buy the thing! So I would think
they'd give you MORE "AFTER" you forked out 600 bones for the
thing, but I thought wrong, sadly.

But, I have notced taht the Renderosity web site DOES have a lot of
good info there, but you really have to know what you're searching
for first, as it's the old deal of, if you don't know what it is something
is called or the name or term for something, then how on earth
can you begin to find it!?

As sson as I get a basic setup working, I'll get a (keywords here) basic
step throughs setup to show how I got to where I am with whatever
scene I show, i.e. importing terrains and plants or designing same.
And I'll bring up the lame areas that I have had problems with, as I'm
sure that they will be the same problems others are having.

Sound good?
That's the best I can offer for now, cuz like I say, I'm brand new to this also.

MonroePoteet, no, no no, nooooo.
You got it wrong.

Here's the old scene, before he had been rigged.
Didn't I mention already in one of these messages (see quote above)
about what you see up there in that desert scene?
I said, that's just the scene he'll be in.

Also that image was made longggg before I ever added bones to him.
That's why he's in his default possition of being all flat and stretched out
arms and legs, is cuz he doesn't have any bones in THAT SCENE.

Look at the NEW renderings, and you'll see that he is now rigged and I
can possition him any way I want to, which means to make him look like
he's real and alive and not just some flat road kill or something LOL

I was merely posting that image, to show where he would be placed
now that I got him all rigged. That desert scene is a few years old already.

Go back to the first post of this thread and look at the images from those links.

That's very generous of you Mark, thanks - I appreciate it. In the meantime I'm going to send a moany email to e-onsoftware.

Tell ya what you'll need to do.
Email me personally, that way I have a record of this conversation and
will be sure to remember about it, as I from time to time go through my
emails to see if there were any that I had forgotten about or forgot to
take care of or simply to remind me of things.
Oh, and of course, to (duh) clear out all the old crap email leftovers.

[email protected]

I'm already planning my very first Vue tutorial as it is.
So, I should have a basic "full" steps tutorial up within
a couple of weeks or so or maybe less.
It would be more then enough to get the average person,
like myself, up and running with a good start.
It will include how to keep your plants from going into the
water and other such things, as these are issues I have to deal with.
Oh, and methods to keep the memory leak/bug/whatever it is, from occuring.

Sorry. This is the finished work forum, not work-in-progress, so I thought it was done.

Didn't I mention already in one of these messages...

What? Read? When there are pictures? :)

Astounding desert scene!

OK, sorry, but you still got me wrong here :)
BTW, thanx for the kind comments.
That scene croaked LW several times way back when I made it.

Anyway, I know this is a finished work forum and that was why
I posted the lizard here, because the lizard IS finished.
The scene WITH the lizard will be later down the road,
but the lizard is still a complete finished work on it's own.

I was only posting that desert scene to show what it will end
up in as a NEW work and not the current work, which is just the lizard.

And believe it or not, I knew that if I would of posted the lizard the same
way I posted it here to the WIP forum, then people there would of bitched
at me because it's a finished work and not a WIP.

I can't win with these forums here at NewTek.
Too many for too much variations of things, when it should just be,
art works posted here and leave it at that, instead of this having
one for every stage a person might be working on or going through.

Like once I got yelled at, just for posting a tutorial in a
disscussion forum, instead of the Tips and Tricks forum!
Give me a break!, it shouldn't be that big of an issue
where someone posts something.
This was why I pretty much stopped coming to these NewTek forums,
and mostly just hang out at the CG-Talk place now, because they don't
try to confuse the heck out of people with ten zillion little forums for
every little thing possible.

Not upset at you BTW, so don't be mad or anything :)
I'm just tired of these forums the way they're setup these days.
It wasn't like this before and things were much better.
And there weren't all the self appointed forum police either,
like there is now a days.

Pretty soon, they'll have:
Only Characters forum
Only Anime forums
Only Animals forums
Only blah, blah, blah forums.

Anyway, sorry, but that was a nerve that's been
hit far too many times whenever I post to a NT forum.

And in this case, I didn't even do anything wrong.
BTW, the reason I posted links instead, was because there were so
many images to view, that I didn't want to clog up the forum.
And I probably would of been yelled at for doing such an evil anyway LOL
