About to upgrade my video storage RAID. Currently have 4 Seagate 36Gb 10K Ultra 320 SCSI's. Thinking about going to the 73Gb 15K Seagate's.\

System is used exclusively for post production.

My questions:
Any other brands just as good and less $$?

Is it worth the extra $$ to go to the 15K Drives?

I do about 5 layers now with comfort, and don't often need more than that. When I do, I just render the 5 to a new file and add some more. Just takes a little extra planning and time.

Any good or bad experiences from you guys would be a big help in making my decision.

I've got the 15k drives and have been very happy with them. I can usually get between 5-8 layers before serious rendering kicks in.

OTOH, they're noticably more expensive ... unless absolute peak performance is a must, personally I'd opt for more space.

Yup... :i_agree: 15K Drives = Too much $$ for the resulting

But...anything but Seagates = :compbeati

Just buy seagates as big as you can afford. In a 4 drive array, 10K will be fine and you'll be all like... :beerchug:

:agree: Thanks for the imput guys. I was leaning toward the 10K's and you sure helped make me feel good about that decision.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
