Just to let You know. We had some LW and FP crashes lately. After installing the latest Nvidia driver (released June 23th) no crashes anymore.

So,if you have stability issues, head over to www.Nvidia.com and download the latest driver!

Hey they have a new series of cards, so what do you guys think, i'm now running on a MSI GF6800 128mb agp for my desktop, if i get myself the MSI GF7800 256mb PCI-E will it boost up LW open gl performance?

The double dvi output looks excellent. :)

If you use dual monitors, as your post hints you do, then going from 128 megs to 256 might help you, but I think switching from a 6800 to a 7800 would probably not change much, since a 6800 chip should already run LW cpu-limited. The switch from agp to pci-e definitely wouldn't make any difference since the bus bandwidth has never been a bottleneck. There are lots of 6800 models with dual dvi. With the prices of the 6800 family going down and the 7800 being at the inflated intro price of over $800 in some shops, I wouldn't even consider it. (Besides, if you have agp now, you'd need a new motherboard to use pci-e, so the price adds up.)

By the time LW introduces ogl enhancements that will take full advantage of the faster cards, the prices of the 7800 will have probably gone down a bit. Now then, if you also play Doom3 or HL2 and money is not an issue, then -definitely- go for it!

Thanks guys, i'll wait a bit longer, my workstation has a quadro 4000 series so heavy duty stuff i can do on there. :) 580 euro is a bit to much for just the options you stated.

I should have known better, but I installed these drivers...

And they blew my Avid Xpress Pro HD to ****.

So, if you have any other software that is video-intensive on your system, I would avoid installing these drivers, or at the very least make sure they are compatible with your software BEFORE installing them.

This is common sense, but apparently I lost that somewhere today...

I installed the latest nVidia drivers.
It did not help solve the disappearing grid bug.
This happened with the last set of nVidia drivers too.
This happens for me with LW 8.2, 8.2.1, and 8.3.
See:

P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB ram, BFG 6800 Ultra OC (not actually over clocked, no heat issues), WindowsXP Pro SP2...

Grrr.

Steve, don't know your circumstances or what you've tried with that, but have you adjusted your AA settings (for the card and LW) it looks like an AntiAlasing problem, not technically a problem with the drivers or software, but just the level of AA causing a visual artifact. I've had problems like that with some other apps before adjusting my settings.
Maby this helps, maby not....

I wish it was an AntiAliasing issue.
Sadly, it is not.
Those screen shots are with AntiAliasing -off-.
AntiAliasing is off in the nVidia control panel and off in the settings in LightWave.

I have the same disappearing bug as StevenDS. Only happened since 8.2. I have the 6800 GT, etc. ,etc. Latest drivers don't help either. Changing grid size from 80x80 to 40x40 makes it all but disappear. Also, if you leave the grid size at 80x80 and split the screen in two peices (persp on top and other stuff on bottom) the grid doesn't do this.

Also, modeller doesn't do this. I really have absolutely NO clue at what is causing this. It's like there is an "unseen object" that you can see through obscuring the view.

BFG 6800 Ultra OC here and I get the grid clipping bug too :(

Definitely not the drivers 'cause my old 5900 XT doesn't have this problem - this one seems to be a LightWave [8] issue with the 6800's.

Strangely enough if I SoftQuadro the 6800 into a Quadro FX4000 the problem vanishes - unfortunately Half Life 2 looks like crap :D

Please fix this!

Same problem here with a BFG 6800 OC with latest drivers and the previous version of drivers with 8.3.

I'm having the exact same disappearing grid problem with my GeForce 6800 GT. Every iteration of the drivers is giving me the same thing with Lightwave. I was hoping there was a driver setting somewhere that would fix this. Is NewTek looking at this issue?

Warmest,
Stivan

BFG 6800 UOC and latest drivers (almost always the latest drivers for me). The grid stays put in 8.3.

Antialiasing is 'application preference.'

Running 1600*1200 and 1280*1024 (and always in the full window).

I'm running the XFX 6800 GT with spanned flat panel displays at 1280x1024 (2560x1024) The nVidia driver is the latest 77.72 Antialiasing is set to "application preference." Lighwave version is 8.3

The same problem persists whether grid antialiasing in LW is turned on or off. I've noticed that I can get the same problem when viewing up through the grid from certain angles as well, but it's not as persistent as when my viewpoint is from above the grid.
