I am using:
Dual 1.8 GHz Power Mac G5
Memory 1.25 GB
Bus Speed: 900MHz
nVidia GeForce FX 5200-AGP
ATI 9200-PCI
MacOS 10.3.8 (Panther)
LightWave 3D 8.3

Dear LightWave Pros,

The geometry scrambles up and does not conform to the bones when I attempt to rig a character using skelegons. When I activate the Bones and turn on "Enable IK" and "Enable Deform," then my character becomes unrecognizably jumbled up. This happens right after I apply weight-maps to the bones.

I follow every manual and tutorial I can find, but I just do not get the right results. I must be doing something wrong. Can you tell me what I and doing wrong/ Or is this a bug in the software?

Go through your bones and hit "r" to rest them into their default positions...

Dear Friend.

Pressing "r" on each bone, actually worked. Much thanks, I have been stuck on that one for days.

In one of the tutorials that I followed and I believe in the manual. It said, " That You can now turn all the bone once in one step by going to "Setup>Add>Bone>Bone On" or Bone Off instead of pressing "r" on each bone. Thank you for clarifying that for me.
