Ok I'm just now rendering some images for print.

I have a roughly 12x18 (actually more like 12x17.3 or something) inch print which in resolution winds up to be 5000x3600.

This figure was calculated by Print Assistant.

Ok no problem... my question is... If rendering a pic for 12x18 is so very large (HUGE) then how the heck do people render images for something like a billboard????

I mean hell does it take them a week to render it or do they render with limited camera sections and then stitch them together??

Or basically is there something I'm missing here? Some trick that I'm unaware of becuase at this rate to render an image at this size it's taking about 2 hours per pass.

I'm running an Athlon 2100+ and 1 Gig of ram... not the fastest machine out there but certainly not the slowest either.

Any information would be helpful... I'm just curious how this is accomplished.

A billboard has a much lower resulotion. Maybe 20 dpi or so, while for print it's most times around 300 dpi, so the image won't be much larger than yours
