View Full Version : Hey Chuck your Avatar....

I was looking thru some of the threads and just saw your Avatar. It's naturally kinda small so not too easy to make out exactly what it's supposed to be. But would you by chance have a larger version of it ( and just what is it?) It looks cool but would love to see the original pic. Probably others here too would like to see it..

There's some info on this in an interview I did for CGFocus a couple of years back. Excerpt regarding the image:

...they wanted a combination of animation and live action with the feel of the old "War of the Worlds" movie and a big cheesy flying saucer. I did most of the models, did the setup and lighting, and keyframed the mothership saucer. I taught Linda [a digital artist friend] the basics of keyframe animating, and we animated the motions of the little fighter ships over 3600 frames. We were front-projecting an image of the building the show was in, and Linda hand painted the changes to the image to reflect the growing damage the ships were doing to the building and the cars in the parking lot (she's the best 2D digital artist I've ever met, and has done some of the most incredible custom photo retouching I've ever seen).

It's a good thing we were trying for retro and cheesy, since that fit my skills level, and the 3D elements of the images are blackmail material compared to what I see our customers doing everyday, but I've included a sequence that shows just before the first incoming fighter shoots, the "death-ray" hitting, and Linda's hand-painted damage.

Details, images (and me making silly faces as usual) here:

Left to right, top to bottom...
PrizBot, Saber, Cyber, Bo Nus & PuzBot.

I created these guys for a computer game I am working on and after appearing in a few short movies I created with them, they became big hits! These guys were created in TrueSpace. Once I learn how to use Lightwave, I'll be recreating them in there with blinking eyes and moving mouths (at the moment, only their hands have movement). They may be basic but I love these guys !!

Nice cat. Is it a work-in-progress, or could you post a textured version of it?

Thank you very much. WIP. I'm afraid I haven't worked out fur yet.

This is Ace!
Avatars never do an image justice - sometimes you can't even tell what you're looking at -

Hey! great idea to convert this post in an avatar thread :p

Well, here is mine. It is a WIP for an alien Cheff... but I am having a second thought on making it again from zero ground.

As you could see, there is a problem on the eye (look at my avatar for the complete version) caused by the png 32 bit format I used to save the image.

this is it...

I suppose... : )

Heres mine... The toughest part was teaching the dog to drive, and trust him enough to sit in the passenger seat with the digital camera during a rush hour drive through the city...

Fortunately, at a mere 60lbs, his feet can actually reach the pedals.

I will note, however, that he is neither wearing his seat belt, licensed, or insured. The Massachusetts registry thought I was nuts when I brought him in to take the test. When he got turned down, he gave up the keys, and took up scent finding instead.
