Anyone have any recommend tools/techniques for moving a Maya scene to LW on the Mac platform??? There are a few ways to do it on the PC, but i'd be interested to know the solutions available for the Mac.

Currently I keep Maya & LW fairly separate. More often than not, I find myself having to animate something incredibly basic in Maya due to the shortcomings in LW, and it would be nice to do certain pieces in Maya and then send it back to LW for rendering rather than having to recreate the whole project in Maya (which I should probably just do from the get go anyway).

thx for the help

Have you tried FBX from Kaydara? I think the plug-ins are free, I loaded a LW scene into Quicktime and was able to spin it around and stuff.

Yeah I was thinking about that Toby, thx, but I was also hoping to see if there was a more thorough implementation of something available like "The Beaver Project".

Why not get in touch with those guys? It is still available and kicking around.
Also, there's the project by Lernie, aka Faulnermano, "Maya2LW", a free-source project for exactly what you describe you need. Don't know it's platform issues, though.

How's it going? Send me that dvd so i can chuckle...

Hey Robert!!

Cool, I'd completely forgot about Lernie's project. I'll see if I can't get it to do what I need. It's the type of thing I'm looking for, but obviously I'm looking for a magic bullet that works seamlessly (you know, something I'm never gonna find... hehehe).

cheers mate, talk to you soon.

There are commercial tools to do this as well, like Polytrans (by Okino Software). I've used Polytrans a lot for object conversion, but not really tried it's animation/scene conversion capabilities. S'posed to be fairly thorough.

Definitely not the cheap option though!

Yeah, but most of those (including PolyTrans) don't have a Mac port of their apps. Tha bastards. ;)

I've used PolyTrans a few times in the past on my PC's, but I was hoping to find a decent Mac option.

FBX does work pretty well for simple stuff - Does DeepExploration have a mac port?

i don't know of any software solutions but perhaps a different approach?
look instead for a widget that exports camera animation between packages.
