View Full Version : 16 bit TIFFs in OSX LW8.3

The migration to 8.3 was surprisingly pleasant. Lots of things work now and nothing silly was broken. But... with the 16bps_OSX_20041020beta tiff plug loaded LW now thinks tga files are tiff. SIOUX launches and presents a "bad magic number" error.

Removing it corrects the issue. I've read through the previous 16bitTIFF/OSX discussions but I haven't found any definative statements from Newtek.

Is the 16bps plug the only way to load 16bit tiffs on the Mac?

Can LW load them natively if they are labeled .tiff?

If a 16bit tiff loads is it cropped to 8bit? There seemed to be some debate about this and as near as I can tell it was never resolved conclusively. Has Newtek ever made their position clear on this?

Open the 16bit TIFF in Photoshop CS, save it as Cineon format.

Since Cineon needs to be RGB. That makes a pretty big file. It does import at full rez though. Thanks for the tip.

Gatz,

Your post just answered my question as to why LW was crashing on certain texture loads. was getting ready to pull my hair out :-) Removing the plug now.

They ( NT) have got to do something about this whole Soiux issue, it is long dead tech, and should be removed from the program>
