View Full Version : Boring sofa/radiosity porn (not the nude kind)

My girlfriend asked me to make a model of a sofa she had made sketches of for an assignment, and after I had finished it and given her a few renders she was happy with, I started playing around with lighting it, and such... It's very plain and rather dull, but what the heck, it'd be nice to actually post something in this part of the forum that wasn't just a "nice image"-comment. ;)

Rendered with standard Lightwave F9, Monte Carlo radiosity (two bounces), a single distant light acting as sun and a default gradiant backdrop. PLD 7-pass anti-aliasing. Took a grand total of 49 minutes to render, but I was using the computer for other thing during the first fifteen minutes or so.

There seems to be something wrong with the image, though... There are some big nasty jaggies here and there, and a lot of noise around the back edges. I guess it might be the image filter DOF messing things up. I'll try one without it and see if it's better. I'll post that one in a little less than an hour, if I haven't fallen asleep by then. :p Other than the render errors, I'm rather happy with it.

edit: darn, I must've forgot to "save exposed." This one is a tad too bright. I'll fix that in 40 minutes when the next render is done.

Well how 'bout that! Lightwave crashed just as I was about to save the rendered image. Well, I'm going to put on a higher-quality render and go to bed.

eeeooohhh, it is nice. Did you use polygons?

Okay, here's a better version. It's less overexposed, and there are less artifacts. But there are still some jaggies. Look at the shadow... Hmm. Any way to avoid this while using DOF? And don't say "just render more passes!" ;)

Yes, it is polygons for the most part. The pillows (or whatever they are... they look more like solid pieces of rubber if you ask me) are subds, but other than that, everything is polygons.

I was trying to ask a question so stupid you wouldnt answer it. Oh, and one of your pillows is crooked, you might want to fix it.

Ehm... Why?

You mean the one closest to the camera? Yeah, I placed them a bit randomly so it wouldn't look so sterile.

So it would appear that I posted more than "nice image", but in fact that was all I really posted. :D - my since of humor isnt very compatible with the internet, often I just make people mad or confused.

Should...just a photoshop plug. I'd email the developer before purchasing to make sure though.

I haven't touched LW's own DOF since I found Evasion's X-Dof. Hmmh, that sounded like some bad marketing phrase, but it really is good. Especially when compared with LW's own slow and ugly DOF...

Nice image by the way ;)
