I was rolling along with my high-poly 1935 NY street scene, decided I did not like the control I was getting with a procedural brick pattern with the bump channel, so I shifted to an image map for color, diffuse, bump and spec. A mini-test render of a small area told me that it is a definite improvement but the render times went up??? Did not expect this. I thought that a procedural involved calculations, so I imagined that an image map, would speed things up beside looking better, but the render times are awful again....??? Any comparisons. I checked the manual and couldn't find any reference for which is faster. Any help will be appreciated. I will post an update of the street scene, whenever it gets done with the render?????

Perhaps your bitmap image is too large. The larger the image the longer the render times. With a brick image, you should beable to get away with a fairly small image and mirror or repeat the image.
