View Full Version : Co-Planar Polygon Reduction: What does it do?

Ok, I've got an object i'm working on which consist of a rail sweep of a polygon.

When I do a CPR with the default med setting on the object it merges some co-planar polys and in doing so it appears to break the object because it causes a definite gap along the edges of the polygon.

On the other hand if I use low then it seems to work fine and no resulting gap.

What's the difference?

the plugin compares two adjacent polygons and looks at their normal direction / angle. if they come within the angle you specify, then they are merged. it is like saying, if they're "straight enough" the plugin will simplify the model on those polygons so that you'll retain the shape of the object while reducing poly counts.
