View Full Version : flag blowing in the breeze- making the displacement map not afect the 'fastened' part

i have a flag which i have blowing in the breeze using a displacement map. the only problem is that this moves the WHOLE flag, and I really want the bit that's "fastened" to the pole to stay still. I know you can do this with motion designer, but I'd really rather stay away from that- had too many problems there!

There must be a way to put a gradient over the ripple displacement so that it gradually stops affecting the flag...I've got no idea how to do it though- I'm terrible with gradients!

Go to the texture displacement at the bottom is a tab for fall off, change the values there to alter how much of the flag moves.

Create a weight map on the flag.
Apply the displacement as usual.
Apply a gradient with the input parameter set to weight
set the blending mode to alpha.
