View Full Version : Poor performance or just me?

Ok, im a newbie at lightwave, im still getting to grips with it.

Im working my way though Dan Ablan's Inside Lightwave 8 book.

The section im on requires simulating water coming from a tap by way of a particle emitter.

Every time i hit calculate in the emitter settings it takes an AGE to do its stuff. Im talking 5 mins here.

The scene isnt that intensive. the particles leave the tap, are affected by gravity and hit the sink (collision object).

Im running:

Lightwave 8.2.1
Mac OS X 10.3.8
Dual 2ghz
2gb DDR Ram

My machine is no slouch! is this the performance i should expect?

If 5 minutes is an AGE...Then I've got to be a Million Years old by now!

5 minutes doesn't sound bad to me at all! When you said AGE I was expecting HOURS or DAYS to calculate. Minutes are good! Be happy :)

i suppose, but when you need to re-calculate quite often to get it looking right it becomes a pain.

I'm not sure why i thought it would be quicker

I'm still using a 500mhz G4! To me you are moving at Lightspeed! ;)
