I was interested to know if there is a way to create hdr files for use in LW.
Can LW render hdr images, or just use them?
Is there a plug in for this, to buy-or maybe already in the LW package?
I'm new at practicing the use of hdr images for lighting my scenes (and it's wonderful) so any information about this topic would be greatly appreciated. I would see a huge benifit in rendering a scene as hdr- then lighting the same scene with the image.
Anybody, anybody!
Many thanks,
Ryan

This is a screenshot from saving a rendered image.

the basic principle is here:

http://www.ict.usc.edu/graphics/HDRShop/tutorial/tutorial5.html

just place a mirrored sphere in your LW scene and render a still of just that sphere. you need a huge zoom factor to minimize distortion. Save out the render as an HDR. If you have HDR Shop, convert the mirrored sphere render into a proper Light probe.

For higher fidelity, merge two light probes taken at 90 degree angle into a single light probe.

wish I could explain more, but I've got no time.

RefGen is part of Eki's PlugPak which can be bought here for a NON-NAG version:

Also check out the ModPak:
