View Full Version : Compete with Google?

How much money do you think it would take to compete with Google? I don't know if I would even try to enter the Internet search engine arena. But it's so hot that another search engine, Accoona, tossed its hat into the ring. President Clinton presided over the launch and hoped everyone involved would "make lots of money." Big talk or big performance?

I'm sure Clinton made a lot of money from it already...

FYI When Google started everyone said compete with Yahoo?
AY&T,SBC, etc..
There was Lycos, Web Crawler and a couple of others but Yahoo
was king when Google started. Googles no busy start page
(which made it faster to load) faster and more accurate
searches made people happier. Even their name was weird and easy
enough to make people remember. FYI Yahoo had to redo their
own search engine to compete again.
I remember going to a trade show and they had a 10x10 booth
in the back..

It can be done and even I have thought someone should.
Sucess makes people stop inovating. The sales guys and suits
take over and the company starts dishing out more of the
same. If Google has gotten to this point its time. Just dont know
if they have crested. I had a couple of simple ideas how to make
a search more inovative. Small stuff to make your searches more
effective can beat em.

Just had a look at it, they've tried to rip off google in the look / layout, and it seems to offer nothing more than google already does, and better.

A search engine that allowed you to configure the look / layout of the results, now THAT would be something!

And I wish Google would design some smarter looking buttons! I mean, they wouldn't take THAT long to load!!!
