Hungry Cat is a variant of Metropolis Light Transport algorithm (MLT) wich probably is the same algorithms that MaxwellRender uses.

If you were to tell me that these images took 5 minutes each to render, I would be enthusiastic... unfortunately all the new render engines (Maxwell, Kray, Vray etc..) seem to take more time in actually setting them up than Lw takes to render. Also, they seem to be not that special at all compared to anything else, really....

Honestly, I think it's a good thing that competition is showing up, and that there are people that are making excellent render engines almost out of their bedroom (Kray looks like it...). It will be some time before they start being usefull for LW. They would be great for max, as its native scanline renderer is, to say the least, a dog.

Thanks for the link... its good to keep em in check. For now this seems to be a render engine unable to do Radiosity, but which focusses on material shaders. Only for SoftCAD. Whatever that may be... : ) Nice development.

Well there's some truth to that in the sense there's a lot more options then just pressing F9 but Vray crushes LW's renderer with the simple abillity to save the GI solution - once you calculate your solution you can easily spit out 1000 frames in no time. Try doing that in LW - without baking everything first. :rolleyes:

There there. It would be SUCH an incredible thing to be able to save a and reload radiosity solutions for whole scenes!!!

That would be a real worthy update for the renderer!!

I agree. But I'm begining to think that deep down there is some real reason in LW's render engine in the way that radiosity is calculated that prevents the saving of the solution.

I'm positive that if it were possible to save out a GI solution in LW, then NewTek would have provided it - its too big an obmission, especially since we have had GI for years since LW [6].

I am certain that if the render engine is going to get a huge re-write for version [9] then the ability to save a GI solution will be included. Until then, I have to rely on the excellent FPrime for my radiosity animation renders!

Using the Interpolate Lightwave radiosity properly can still hold its own with most other renderers. All those competitions on cgtalk and so forth continuously prove that.
Saving a GI solution would be very usefull in speeding up the workflow for animators, but if you bake your solution, you can do the same thing.

Exception: I dont want to be rude, im just curious, have you ever tried to bake a room full of stuff? When i have tried quite basic things i give up because of the bakingtimes OR my baked texture showed up black OR my baked texture finally work's but lack's detail so i have to rebake it again..... and so on and so on. Have you found out a painless way to do it?
