If you cant tell its the ring, from the trilogy...

no radiosity, one area light at quality 4 and hdri lighting

hdri lighting is radiosity, unless you only used the hdr image as a reflection map. Great image, it looks hyper real. Beautiful. Precious.

yea i know, i just meant that i didnt have radiosity turned on as it takes forever to render...

I am not familiar with radiosity. I dont use it. I hear a hole lot now a day about lightwaves renderer being slow when it comes to radiosity. About how long would it take... guessing... with this same seen you have here. How long did it take for the original?

i think it took about 6 hours with radiosity on full, but i have a crap computer, and i think i had antialiasing and resolution up pretty high also

Radiosity in LW requires a lot of tweaking to get right, unfortunately. As for render times... I've seen everything between a doubling of render time and an increase by several orders of magnitude by having it turned on. It varies infinitely with the scene and the radiosity settings.
