Hi all, just excited to stop by. I just ordered my very own copy of lighwave 8. I'm just starting out in animation. I've been learning on Maya 6, but I've always wanted to learn Lightwave though.

Any learning tools that you all would recommend?

Thanks and I hope to be showing my work soon!

You should also take a look at the DVD offerings from Kurv Studios (http://kurvstudios.com/).

For free tutorials, there's also our site (http://www.newtek.com/products/lightwave/tutorials/index.html), and LightWave Tutorials on the Web (http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/Main_Menu.htm).

I've found these tutorials very well done, there are many free ones there too, including the first download to many of the 'sets', these are to help you decide if it is worth buying the rest.

Here is the hub of free tutorials out there, I would always look at your free resources first: http://members.shaw.ca/lightwavetutorials/Main_Menu.htm (oops, I see Kurtis already got that one)

The inside Lightwave books by Dan Ablan are always good.

Welcome to Lightwave.

Congratulations on your acquisition of Lightwave! I too was using Maya 3.0 at work (back in 2000) with no great success ... then bought Ligtwave 6.5 for myself for about $1000 bucks because I was a registered owner of Director. Within two weeks of the purchase, I got a free upgrade to LW7.0 and took off from there!

The Desktop Images videos with Brad Peebler got me up and running very quickly. I'm not sure if they have updated these videos to LW8.0 or not. Check out www.destopimages.com .

Good luck!

Hey, thanks for such great responses! I'm really excited to be using Lightwave. I read that Lightwave uses the most detailed pixels (still learning the tech names) and was amazed by the Halo Boy movie. I hope one day that I'll be able to produce something as beautiful as that.

I orded the Lightwave book by Dan Alban (sp?) and can't wait to start learning. I also own Vue 4 Pro, has anyone used these two together?

Oh, and I will for sure be checking out the Kurv info as well. Sorry, I didn't mention that in my last post. :)

Those online tutorials also look great.

Thanks again.
