I remember that there was a possibilty to get only shadows from a light, without the ilumination. How was that achieved? Something with duplicating the light? I need that to use with arealights!

Thx!

Ok,got it. A second light with shadows and a third light without at a negative value.

Duplicating the geometry combined with Light Exclusion and Camera visibility.

Hmm, just duplicate your light, add a minus to the intensity of the copied light and switch shadows off. Whaddayamean with second and third light ??

Ahh, well, to control the shadow intensity independenly from ilumination strength. for that i need 3 lights instead of 2.

In a similar vein, does anyone know of a way to generate just shadows without the geometry?

Switch camera visibility off for the objects.

Set the object to unseen by camera? I think it will still cast shadows.

In order to have shadows from objects without lighting them, You must set color of light to (0,0,0) and shadow color to (255, 255, 255) . After that You have to set intensity of light to -100%.
