Hi folks,

Im in need of a program or preferably plugin that can neatly pack UV's. The UV's created by Atlas are sometimes very inefficient, leaving large gaps where polygons could make good use of the texture space. Since the objects I deal with are complex, I'd rather not do this by hand.

Does anyone know:
- A trick how to do this (maybe with the new 8.2 commands?)
- A plugin which can do this
- A decent program that will do this. Ive tried Uv Mapper Pro and Depp UV, they both do not satisfy.

The trick here, as such, is to do it by hand.

And that's not meant to be flippant, but a perfect UV tool simply does not exist -- though I am surprised you find Deep UV unsatsifying, it's auto pack mechanism is probably the best you'll find.

I use MG UVGenerator (or Alternate Atlas VMap) to make uvs for complex models, such as buildings, for lightmap calculations. It's far more efficient packer than LW's atlas, at least. However, it always could be better... :D

Plugin can be found here:

yes Deep UV's packing is excellent. the whole program just crashes when opening a big (BIG!) model.

Gromit, hey that sounds good lemme check it out...
Ok, that is of no use to me since it only works on triangles....

boooh... : (
