I recieved an email from Lee Stranahan regarding the Lightwave Worldwide community tour in which he mentioned the upcoming release of Lightwave 8.

I am still working with 6.5 and was thinking about upgrading to 7.5b in the next while. But it LW8 is about to be released, I would rather wait for it. Does anyone have any more info on the new release date, etc.

Erich, I too am on 6.5b and am holding out for 8. It's widely known that SOMETHING is coming for LightWave around the time of Siggraph (102 days and counting), everyone (including me) is anticipating that this is when 8 will be released. I'd hold out on upgrading at this point. I had the plan of catching every other paid upgrade, but from now on, I'll be shelling out the bucks every time one is available. $400 every two years is nothing, and I feel like a fool for not having moved to 7.x.

Why not email Lee, he seems to know.

Are there any problems with LightWave. I found out a while ago that the main programmers (Hastings & Ferguson who appear in the copyright when "about" is called up) have set up their own company by the name of Luxology. They call themselves former programmers of LightWave. Any ideas? (I just hope that LW doesn't get left behind.

Are you kidding? Where did you hear this from? Sounds like it might be a serious problem!

There is a NT/Lux thread around here. Go read it.

Also, there's really no reason to wait to upgrade to 8 if you get a free upgrade from 7 if you order after April 1st, which unless my stupid time machine has malfunctioned again, has already passed. Essentially, you can buy 8 now and get 7 until 8 is released. The real question I'm dying to know is whether or not getting VT[3] entitles me to a free upgrade to LW8 because it has LW7 included. Anyone care to shed light on that?

I've seen no information on an upgrade to LightWave 8 or indeed any information on an impending update!

Oh my God I feel just a little silly and blind. Now I see the worth of someone buying 7 to get 8 later. And it is great to see that LightWave is not going to be left behind as was feared by many (inc myself) with 'the split'
