Alright, here's my first of sure to be many questions. I feel cheesy asking this because it seems like it should be such a simple task. I'm trying to turn this

into an Object in LW. I thought I'd start from the top. So I created a box. 3.048m wide, .1524m tall, and .254m deep, to be the top-most board. Now here's my problem, I can't bend it! Everything I try distorts it in ways I don't want it distorted. Any help as how to make this "sag" down, as though someone were standing on it? Please help, I spent the last 2 hours reading through books, still couldn't figure it out, you're my last hope.

There are many ways to create the desired effect.

The key thing to understand is that polygon modelling such as lightwave doesn't understand curves. It understands points and straight lines connecting points together.

So the question to keep in mind is:
How many straight lines do you need to create the illusion of a curve?

As for methods to get the right shape:

* Use the knife or bandsaw tools on your Box, then move the points to position.
* As Matt has shown start with creating a Disc to locate the points.
* Use the Pen tool or the Add Points tool then turn them into polygons
* Use the curves tools / Splines

Many methods, just 1 principle... Dot-To-Dot with straight lines.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers

Ta Da! Finally! Thank you so much, I was trying to do this from the completely wrong angle (never used a 3D app before). Now that I've gotten a good poke in the right direction I feel way more comfortable in the environment. I just thought I'd post this WIP of the piece, I saved it mega-low quality from Photoshop, hence the pixelation. I haven't touched the lighting or textures, they still scare me. :D
