For that bit of extra control over shadows, it would be great to be able to control the opacity for shadows so you could 'lighten' then by making them show more of the underlying material through.

hopefully that makes sense!

The strength of the shadow is related to the intensity of the light i.e Diffuse and Specular. This issue involved more lighting technique than a feature.

A few ways to change the shadow intensity.

- Use a dual light setup, one of the two casting shadows and the other light not. You can customize the shadow colour too.
You can combine exclusions if the one of the two lights influences your scene. Extra Rendering time is almost zero.

- If you dont involve radiosity, add some Luminosity to the object that the shadow is composited on

- If you are a lucky owner of Worley G2 Shader, fine tune shadow intensity

- There is a hidden feature of LW called "Shadow Exclude". This can be useful sometimes cause by using it, the Exclusion involves not only shading but shadows too. However it is a global switch for all lighs and not on a per light basis.

I'm aware of the workarounds just be nice if it was quicker!

Have you tried changing the shadow color to a lighter value besides black?

zero ambient, one spot.

-First image with shadow color at black
-Second image with shadow color at around 147/147/147
