Im just building my own pc, But when your only 16 and working a part time job at Canadian tire it takes a little while, Specially when i always wanna buy thr best stuff i can find. So i am looking to buy the program im currently taking a class for it, But i wanted to know how good my future computer would run this. Im hopin pretty good as the tower is gonna cost around 4 grand.

Pentium 4 3.73 Ghz Extreme Edition
Abit Fatal1st 925XE Motherboard
1-2 Gigz OCZ Platinum Rev 2.0 ddr2 that does 3-2-2-6 at 533 mhz
1-2 Western Digital Raptor 10k Hard drives ( 75 gb)
And im either gonna get an x800 Xt, 6800 Ultra extreme Or wait for the new cards later this year.

But another big question is, how important is a good video card for this program? The current computers i use for LW are 933 mhz P3's with crappy video cards.

So i good would that system do, I also plan on clocking that P4 up to 3997 mhz, So i'll be expecting a memory bandwidth of around 8.5 gigytes a second out of it

Don't worry if your finances aren't up to much. I've run LW on a P2 800 before, if you keep your scene reasonable it's fine :)

Video card really doesn't matter that much! I'm using a GeForce 4 Ti4200 dual display and it's completely fine for Lightwave. Lightwave won't use all your fancy extras on that x800, you could easily get away with a GeForce 6600GT for less than half the price. Of course, if you hate to see a system like this going to waste as a gaming platform then your x800 might be a good idea ;) As a side-note - most LW users tend to prefer Nvidia as opposed to ATI cards; why I'm not sure but there seems to be a consensus that they just work better together though I've no idea if that's true :)

Nice system anyway :D

Personally, I would go with an Athlon 64. XP64 is right around the corner and with it come the 64bit version of LightWave. Even ignoring the 64bit stuff, the Athlon 64 will give you better bang for your buck.

Yeah. I ran LW on a 500mhz PIII for a while until I saved up and bought a 2.8ghz P4. At least you found somewhere to take a LW course. I can't find anywhere around here, and I have to teach myself. Oh well.

The new 3.73 EE is 64 bit, thats why its not gonna be out yet for another month or two. But yea i would also do alot of gaming, So i wanna high end video card. I bet i could easily run it right now. Ive got a 2.8 P4 gig of ram and a 9800 pro. i use 1600 by 1200 and have a 21 inch monitor. I also got a SoundBlaster audigy 2 If thats helps at all.

Plus is there anyone on the forums that has and runs aquamark3? Im currently able to score 53,000 on my system, which is very high on a 2.8 p4 and a 9800 pro :)
